Wymington - Poddington - Sunday 13th December 2015

Xmas Walk - Dec 2015 - 4½ Miles - 297ft Ascent

We walked from South Grove in Wymington across very muddy and wet fields to Poddington. Stopping by the garden centre for a short coffee break we crossed the High Street into Gold Street. We took a footpath on the right which joined a Bridleway across some more cloggy and very wet fields back to Wymington. A very drizzly, overcast and gloomy day but a great short walk which gave us all an appetite for our Christmas Lunch at Knuston Hall.

Warmington - Fotheringhay Castle - 29th November 2015

Warmington - Warmington Mill - Fotheringhay - Nassington - Elton - 8¾ Miles - 308ft Ascent

From Warmington we walked out of the village to Warmington Mill and across the Nene to Fotheringhay Castle, then on into the village for coffee at the church. From Fotheringhay we walked by Willowbrook on to Nassington where we had lunch in the cricket field. Leaving Nassington we re-crossed the Nene and walked into Elton where we had an afternoon break before walking back to Warmington through Elton Hall Grounds. A very windy and at times wet walk.

Stagsden Circular - 25th October 2015

Stagsden - Wick End - Hill Farm - 7 Miles - 305ft Ascent

Leaving Stagsden by a footpath near the church we walked to Wick End and then left on the road up the hill to Wick End Farm. Here we took a track on the left past How Wood and left to the Stevington - Stagsden Road. Right up the hill to a path on the left, taking this path to Mount Pleasant Farm where we had coffee. Continuing on from the farm we turned left and on past Hill and Horseclose Spinney's to Hill Farm where we had lunch. From here it was a short walk back to Stagsden

Aldeburgh Weekend Away - Snape Maltings - Sunday 4th October 2015

Snape Maltings - Snape Warren – 3½  Miles - 76ft Ascent

Starting from the Snape Maltings Centre we crossed the river Alde and followed a path through the marshes and woodland into Snape Warren Conservation Area which is a mixture of heathland and woods. The circular path crossed access land back to the maltings. Very mixed walk with wading birds, fungi and heather. 

Aldeburgh Weekend Away - Aldeburgh - Saturday 3rd October 2015

Aldeburgh - Thorpeness Circular - 8 Miles - 179ft Ascent

Starting from the Toll House in Aldeburgh we walked out of the town on the A1094 to a path on the right across Aldeburgh Golf Course through the Round Plantation to Chapel Farm. Here we turned right on to the Sandlings Walk Path past the North Warren Conservation Area and on to the disused railway where we walked north to the Sheepwash Crossing. Here we turned right on to a path through Thorpeness Golf Club, past the House in the Sky, the Windmill, and on through Thorpeness to the Meare where we had lunch. After lunch we walked along the beach back towards Aldeburgh turning right on to a path through the marshes past the Red House (Benjimen Brittens house) back to the Toll House - Great Walk enhanced by Sue's local knowledge

Pipers Highway - Carlton - Stevington - 27th September 2015

Carlton - Pictshill House  - Stevington – 8½ miles - 440ft Ascent

We left Carlton via a track through Nicholas Farm past Emmaus Village on the right and on through Bagton and Great Oaks Farms. Crossing the old railway line we went on to Pictshill House to see Llama, Highland Cattle & Water Buffalo. From Pictshill we made our way back across the railway line on to Stevington where we admired the creativeness of the scarecrow competition. We had our lunch in Stevington before leaving by the John Bunyan Path past the church and on to the River Ouse we turned left up to the West End of Stevington and walked back to Carlton via Hart and New Barns Farms. 10 ramblers on a beautiful sunny autumn day.

Felmersham - Harrold - Sunday 26th July 2015

Felmersham - Odell - Harrold - Pavenham - Radwell – 10¾  Miles - 482ft Ascent

Setting off from Felmersham we headed west through Will's Farm and on to Hardwick Farm. We then followed the minor road down into the Ouse Valley to the Carlton Road and then on to the river. We walked by the river towards Odell and on to Harrold Country Park where we had coffee sheltering from the pouring rain. We then retraced our steps back to Odell and climbed back out of the valley up to Daisy Bank. Walking on to the outskirts of Pavenham we crossed the golf course on to Radwell. On through the village to the river at Pinchmill Islands. From here we walked back to Felmersham along the river bank. Great walk but a very wet day with prolonged periods of rain

Grendon - Castle Ashby - Evening Walk - Wednesday 15th July 2015

Grendon - Castle Ashby - 5 Miles - 321 ft Ascent

We walked from Grendon Nether End (bottom end of the village) through the fields to the upper part of the village. We walked through the village then across the fields to Parkhill Road into Castle Ashby – We returned via Scotland Pond and Grendon Quarter Ponds and climbed the hill into the village. We then walked through the churchyard round the back of Grendon Hall back to the start. Lovely July summer evening. Well attended with 14 walkers.

Day Trip - Derbyshire – Afternoon Walk - Sunday 17th May 2025

Bakewell - Haddon Park - Manners Wood – 5½ Miles - 710ft Ascent

From Bakewell we walked to Haddon Park beside the River Wye to Bowling Green Farm. Crossing Coombs Dale into Manners Wood. A steep climb up to Carlton Pastures. Across the pastures and into the woods again downhill back to Bakewell. The wild flowers in the woods were fantastic.

Edensor - Rowsley – 3½ Miles - 195ft Ascent

Starting at Edensor we walked past Chatsworth House and followed the River Derwent to Carlton Lees and Rowsley where we had lunch. The wild flowers in the woods were a picture. After lunch at Rowsley the coach took us all to Bakewell. 

East Haddon - Ravensthorpe Circular - Sunday 26th April 2015

East Haddon - Ravensthorpe  - Coton - Ravensthorpe – 8¼  Miles - 660ft Ascent

We walked from East Haddon to Ravensthorpe Reservoir via Tithe Farm stopped for coffee overlooking the reservoir. On to Coton past Coton Manor and then to Ravensthorpe for lunch at the pub. From Ravensthorpe back to East Haddon passing the very exclusive holiday cottages at Rye Hill Farm on the way. 

Leek Weekend Away - Saturday Walk - 4th April 2015

Hen Cloud - The Roaches and Luds Church - Forest Wood – 9½  Miles - 1758ft Ascent

Walking from the road side parking near Upper Hulme we climbed Hen Cloud and then on to the Roaches past the Mermaid Pool (Doxey Pool) then to the trig point where we had coffee. After coffee we walked to Roach End and on into Forest Wood where we had lunch. Then we walked to Luds Church and on through Forest Wood back to Roach End. Here we took the path "Back of Roaches" to the cars through Goldsitch House and Blue Hills. Crystal clear day, great walk.

Leek Weekend Away - Sunday Walk - 5th April 2015

Froghall Wharf - Caldon Canal - Ipstones - Foxt - 7 Miles - 1068ft Ascent

From Froghall Wharf  we walked beside the Caldon Canal and the Churnet Valley Railway to Consall Station, then up the Devils Staircase to Belmont Hall. On to Ipstones, through the village and then on to Foxt. From Foxt across Shirley Brook into Harston Wood. On to the Staffordshire Moorland Walk back to Froghall Wharf.

Lamport - Faxton - Old Circular - 22nd February 2015

Lamport - Faxton – Mawsley - Old - Scaldwell  - 8¾  Miles - 525 ft Ascent

We walked from the Layby on the A508 at Lamport to the abandoned village of Faxton where we had coffee. By contrast we then walked to the new village of Mawsley and on to Old where we had lunch in the pub. After lunch we walked back to Lamport via the village of Scaldwell. The rain started as we went in the pub and then rained horizontally for the rest of the walk All a bit soggy at the end.

Bedford - River Ouse - Sunday 24th January 2015

Priory Country Park - Bedford - Great Denham - 8 Miles - 42ft Ascent

From Priory Country Park around the lake to the River Ouse and the Ouse Valley Way. We turned right upstream by the river through Mill Meadows into Bedford where we had coffee. We then crossed the river and walked on the north bank to Great Denham where we had lunch. After lunch we retraced our steps back into Bedford and along the Embankment back to Priory Country Park by the Bedford to Sandy Country Way
