Brigstock - Geddington - Stanion - Circular

Rushden Ramblers Walk 26th Oct 2014 (55)

Oct 2014 - 9.25 Miles - 496ft Ascent

We left Brigstock by taking a footpath by the micro brewery. The path winds its way across to the village of Geddington with views of Boughton House on the way. We stopped by the Eleanor Cross in Geddington for coffee and a history lesson from a local guide. Moving on we took the path through Geddington Chase past Chase Lodge on to Stanion. We had lunch here on the small green in the centre of the village. Leaving the village by the pocket park we followed the path back to Brigstock. Some extra distance was added skirting around ploughed fields!!

5th Oct 2014 - Sunday Walk - Croughton Court - Round Hill – 6¼ Miles - 408ft Ascent

Parking near Croughton House (NT) we crossed the River Arrow ford and took a path uphill to Windmill Hill Barn and on to New End, then past Alne and Newlands Woods to meet Burford Lane, where we stopped for a break. Turning left and taking a path on the right we skirted Round Hill and Spernall Park. We continued until we met the Millennium Way where we turned left and walked to the disused church at Spernall. From here it was a short walk back to Croughton House.

4th Oct 2014 - Saturday Walk - Welford on Avon - Stratford - 11 Miles - 344ft Ascent

After a very wet start from Welford on Avon we walked through the village across the River Avon at Binton Bridges on to the village of Lower Binton, continuing past Drayton Farm to Shottery and Ann Hathaways Cottage. From Shottery we walked into Stratford where we had lunch and a quick look round. We left Stratford on the Shakespear's Avon Way and followed the river back to Welford on Avon.

Greens Norton - Abthorpe - Circular

30th Sept 2014 - 8.5 Miles - 453ft Ascent

Taking the Grafton Way south out of Greens Norton we crossed the River Tove and turned right on to a field path which took us back across the River Tove to Bradden where we had a coffee break. Then we left the village via a path by Bradden House which took us to Slapton Hill Farm where we headed south to Slapton and on to Abthorpe and had our lunch by the church. Leaving Abthorpe by the Towcester Road we turned left on to a path that went past Ox Bridge and Foscote before turning north to the bridge back over the River Tove. Here we retraced our steps for 1/4 mile before turning off right to make our way back to Greens Norton via Bengal!!. Most of the group believe that this walk holds the record for the number of stiles climbed in one day!

Boughton Grounds - North Crawley – Circular

31st August 2014 – 8 ¼ Miles – 270ft Ascent

From the Boughton Grounds Woodlands Car park we followed field paths to Moulsoe and on past Tickford Park Farm where we had coffee, then followed the paths across fields and through woods to North Crawley village for lunch at the pub. Leaving the village by Church Farm we followed a path to Shire Lane and then on to Wharley End. Here we followed a minor road south to a path on the right which took us by Chapel Close Spinney and Lower Wood. Then we made our way back to the car park visiting Boughton Grounds Woods on the way. 

Irthlingborough - Chelveston - Stanwick Lakes – Circular

29th June 2014 – 10¾ Miles - 403ft Ascent

From Irthlingborough Church we walked across the Nene Valley into Higham Ferrers, through the new housing estate to Stanwick Road and over the A6 to a footpath on the right. Taking this path we walked to Chelveston where we had coffee. From Chelveston we followed field paths to Stanwick for lunch. Leaving Stanwick we walked to the A45 turning right on to the Meadow Lane track. Passing under the A45 we walked into Stanwick Lakes and followed the path by Hog Dyke to the main cycle/walking track. Here we turned left back to the Visitors Centre where we had an afternoon break, then back to Irthlingborough via Marsh Lane. The field paths were very overgrown and difficult to walk.

Day Trip – Sheringham

Sunday 18th May 2014 - Weybourne – Upper Sheringham - Sheringham – Linear - 8¼ Miles - 840ft

We caught the Costal Hopper bus to Weybourne and walked out to the beach along Beach Lane, then turned right and walked along the Norfolk Costal Path towards Sheringham. At a path on the right we turned inland and walked into Sheringham Park. Some of us climbed the viewing tower and all of us stopped at the visitor centre for lunch. Then we walked around the park and retraced our steps back out to the beach where we walked back to Sheringham along the coast path. Sunny bright day

Lower Benefield - Brigstock - Lyvedon – Circular

Sunday 27th April 2014 - 10.5 Miles - 434ft Ascent

Leaving Lower Benefield on the Upper Benefield path we took a route that went past Sheepwalk Spinney, Spring Wood and Cockendale Wood where we had coffee. Leaving Cockendale Wood we headed north skirting Blackthorns and into Harrys Park Woods, on to Brigstock Country Park passing the Bocase Stone on the way. We had lunch in the Country Park after which we skirted Fermyn Woods and walked to Lyvedon New Bield where we had an afternoon break. Leaving Lyvedon we walked back to Lower Benefield across the fields and through Banhaw Wood which was full of bluebells,unday 27th April 2014 - 10.5 Miles - 434ft Ascent

Spring Weekend Away - Bempton Cliffs

13th April 2014 - Sunday Walk - Bempton - Bempton Cliffs - 4.25 Miles - 892ft Ascent

From Bempton we followed the minor road to the RSPB Reserve at Bempton Cliffs where we saw Kittiwakes and Gannets. We then walked along the cliffs to take a footpath to Buckton on the left. We walked into Buckton where we had coffee. We then took the short walk back to Bempton.

Filey Weekend Away

April 2014 - Saturday Walk - Filey - Muston - Lebberston Cliffs – 10¼  Miles - 1358ft Ascent

From Filey we walked to Muston Village and on to Gristhorpe where we had coffee. On through Lebberstone and across the A165 to Redcliff Farm Shop for lunch. On leaving we took the path to Lebberstone Cliffs and walked back to Filey along the cliffs passing Red Cliff Point, Nine Rocks and Filey Brig on the way.

Grendon – White Mills – Great Doddington - Wollaston Circular

30th March 2014 - 10 Miles - 406ft Ascent

Leaving Grendon we headed for the River Nene at White Mills passing through Grendon Lakes on the way. At White Mills we turned right downstream and followed the path to Earls Barton Lock where we had coffee. Staying on the same path we followed the river to the mill at Hardwater. We crossed the river and took a path up the hill into Great Doddington where we had lunch in the playing field.  Taking a path downhill to Wollaston Lock we walked around the lakes to Wollaston. From the village we took a path to the Playing Field where we stopped for an afternoon break. Leaving the playing field we crossed the A509 and walked back to Grendon.

Harrold - Bozeat – Circular

23rd Feb 2014 - 9 Miles - 386ft Ascent

We left Harrold by the Church path passing the Lock Up and School, taking the "New Road" over Coldharbour Hill to the Three Shires Way where we turned right and then left on to the path to Bozeat. We had lunch at the Red Lion Pub then left Bozeat by Dychurch Lane taking a path on the right to Harrold Park. From here we walked through the woods downhill back to Harrold
