Hackleton – Piddington – Hartwell – Salcey Forest

24th Nov 2013 - 10.25 Miles - 397ft Ascent

From Hackleton we walked to Piddington and the Roman Dig site, then to Quinton Green. From Quinton Green we passed under the M1 and made our way to Hartwell where we had lunch. Then we re-crossed the M1 into Salcey Forest and on to the Visitor Centre for an afternoon break, before returning to Hackleton.

Sandy – Everton – RSPB Reserve

27th October 2013 - 8.5 Miles - 372ft Ascent

On a damp and dank day 14 of us made our way to Sandy and parked in the High Street car park. We walked down the High Street and turned left to follow the Greensand Ridge Way out of the town over the railway bridge on to the Pinnacle Recreation Ground. We continued straight across the meadow through Caesars Camp into the woodland and followed the waymarked path to the left until we reached Sand Lane. We turned right and followed Sand Lane after  500m we turned left to follow the Greensand Ridge Walk through meadows and along field edge paths and farm tracks. We continued to follow the bridleway for 1½ miles until we reached Tempsford Road here we crossed the road and continued straight ahead along the bridleway for until we  joined an old runway past Gibraltar Farm. Here we looked at USAF memorabilia inside the barn (well worth a visit) we also had a short break there out of the wind. We took a path opposite Gibraltar Farm and followed the waymarked footpath up to the hill into Everton. When we reached Church Road we turned right towards the Thornton Arms. We had planned to call in there for a drink but a huge Christening party had just arrived and it was impossible to get a drink there. Some of the group had their lunch in the church yard and some in the recreation ground. At the Thornton Arms we turned left and followed the Potton Road  When we reached  Ashmore Farm we turned right and followed  the byway to Deepdale passing through a small woodland. At the tarmac road we turned right along the track and passed the Sandy transmitter on the left. After approximately ½ mile we turned left to follow the Long Riding bridleway to Potton Road. We crossed the Potton Road and entered The Lodge which is the national headquarters of the RSPB and a nature reserve.  Immediately inside the entrance gates we turned right along the waymarked “Fir’s Trail“ (that is after we had a cuppa at the café) and followed the trail towards Sandy. When we reached Potton Road we turned left and followed the pavement back into Sandy to pick up our cars.

Broughton – Orlingbury - Pytchley

29th Sept 2013 – 8¾ Miles - 599ft Ascent

Leaving Broughton we followed a footpath to Top Lodge and on past the ruin of Badsaddle Farm to the A43 where we turned left on to a bridlepath that took us to the Broughton - Orlingbury road. Here we turned right into Orlingbury where we had lunch. Then we took the path to Pytchley and then back to Broughton.     

Grendon - Yardley Hastings - Castle Ashby

30th June 2013 – 9¼ Miles - 350ft Ascent

After leaving Grendon by walking down Blackmile Lane we followed Grendon Brook through the fields to Easton Maudit where we had coffee at the church. After walking through the village we headed on a track to across the fields to the old Castle Ashby Golf Links and on to Yardley Hastings where we had lunch at the Rose and Crown. We then walked through the fields and crossed the Castle Ashby House Drive. We then walked through Castle Ashby and returned to Grendon axcross the fields. A very sunny and warm day.

Stanwick Circular – Evening Walk

23rd May 2013 – 3 Miles - 144ft Ascent

Evening stroll around the intresting village of Stanwick. From the Car park at the back of the Duke of Wellington we walked through the pub to Church Street – We then went up the High Street and turned into Chapel Lane – This led to a footpath through to Newbridge Lane – Here we turned right and walked up the lane to East Street – Turning left we walked to a junction where we turned right to a footpath. The path took us across a large pocket park to the Raunds Road – Turning right away from the village we soon turned left on to a track and followed it downhill to just before the A45 road – Here we turned left and walked to West Street – We then walked back through the village to the pub.

St Neots – Paxton Pits - Little Paxton

28th April 2013 - 8.25 Miles - 67ft Ascent

From St Ives Town Centre we followed the River Ouse north through Lammas Meadow to the bridge at Little Paxton. We then followed the river into Little Paxton Pits Nature Reserve and had lunch at the Visitors Centre before returning to St Ives through Little Paxton village.

Clopton – Armston - Barnwell

31st March 2013 - 9 Miles - 268ft Ascent

Clopton to Armston via South & North Lodge Farms. Coffee at North Lodge Farm. On to Barnwell for Lunch back to Clopton by the Barnwell Brook.

Wells Weekend - Wells - Holkham – Circular

Wells - Sunday Walk (22)- Beach - Gloves

24th March 2013 - Sunday Walk - Wells - Holkham - 6 Miles - 172ft Ascent

We walked from Wells Harbour to Wells Beach, west along Wells Beach to Holkham Gap and inland to Holkham to the cafe for coffee, then through Holkham Park back to Wells. Very strong Easterly wind on the beach with a wind chill of -15 degrees. Photograph shows a pair of gloves being blown along the beach.

Wells Weekend - Blakeney – Wells Next To Sea - Linear

Wells - Saturday Walk - Blackeney (4) HQ

23rd March 2013 - Saturday Walk - Blakeney - Wells - 8.75 Miles

We caught Coastal Hopper Bus to Blakeney, then walked in the snow to Morston and then Stiffkey where we had lunch in the pub, returning to Wells along the Norfolk Coastal Path. Many waders and wildlife to be seen in the marshes.

Blisworth – Stoke Bruerne - Circular

Rushden Ramblers Walk Feb 2013 - Bliswor

24th February 2013 – Blisworth – Shutlanger - Stoke Park Pavilions – Stoke Bruerne - 8½ Miles – 406ft Ascent

Over Tunnel Hill from Blisworth into Shutlanger for coffee break. Then on to Stoke Park Pavillions and Stoke Bruerne for lunch then back to Blisworth across the fields. A cold frosty day

Irthlingborough – River Nene - Circular

27th January 2013 - 12 Miles - 403ft Ascent

Leaving the car park by the church we headed into the Nene Valley and walked around the Higham Ferrers Nature Reserve. Crossing the A45 we walked to Chichele College and then followed a path back down hill to the disused railway track into Stanwick Lakes. Past the Visitors Centre we turned right to follow the path towards Raunds and the A45. Here we took the path to the Medieval Village of Mallows Cotton and on to Ringstead. At Ringstead we returned to the main cycle/walking track and walked to the Visitors Centre and Irthlingborough. The River Nene had flooded which resulted in some lengthly diversions and a baptism of fire for some of our new members.
